Non-practicing dancer.
I live with my favorite writer, my husband, and two talented (drummer & singer) step-daughters in New England. We’re a family of artists, beach lovers, gamers, and music fanatics.
I’ve been writing for a really long time. I love words. I love to manipulate them and reorganize them and I LOVE cutting them out. I’m a total word nerd.
In my teens, I experienced abuse that totally blindsided me. Which really pissed me off because I thought I was a smart girl who knew what the warning signs were—creepy old men who lurked in dark corners. But it wasn’t the creepy dark corner lurker who got me.
When I decided to write Losing Focus, I wanted to show readers that abuse doesn’t come in a devil’s suit and hide away in closets. More often than not, it starts with a glowing, warm smile and happens right in front of other trusting people.
Without getting preachy or trying to create an after school special, I wanted to write an entertaining story that was filled with the drama and romance teens love, but also with the subtle way abusers groom their victims, making it all a big messy mind game that most of us aren’t equipped to handle, never mind teens.
And while this story is based on a lot of things I know a lot about, it’s not my story. My photography teacher was not a young, handsome psychopath. He was an old, chain-smoking beatnik with a potty mouth. And I loved him to death.
I hope you enjoy Losing Focus! Watch for the rest of the series coming not-super-soon.
